Birthplace of General Baegya Kim Jwa-jin
This is the place where General Baegya Kim Jwa-jin, one of the most prominent independent activists, was born and raised.
General Kim is famous for having led the indepedence fighters to victory in the Cheongsan-ri Battle, which is recorded as the most notable landmark achievement in the history of the independence movement. The great general burned the slave ownership papers here at the age of 15 and shared his farmlands and fields. At th age of 17, he founded the Homyeong School where Galsan Middle and High School sites are, and taught the new academic disciplines.
In 1991, the sanctuary development project began to implemented, and the main house, gate section and sarangchae were rebuilt. The memorial hall, shrine and park were newly established. Every year on the 25th of October, which marks the anniversary of the victory in the Cheongsan-ri battle, the Hongseong-gun Office holds a memorial service to pay tribute to the patriotic general.
