Memorial Hall of the House of Goam Yi Eung-no

Goam Yi Eung-no was one of the most celebrated contemporary artist in Korea.

The house where he was born was restored on its original site, and a memorial hall dedicated to the artist was built next to it. The memorial hall consists of 5 exhibition halls, an outdoor exhibition center, a multi-purpose room, the restored house, Yeonji Park and a book cafe, so it serves as a place of culture and relaxation for the visitors. In 2013, it even won the Grand Prize in the social and public architecture category at the Korea Architecture Award.

The memorial hall, built in 2011, was designed to blend together with the surrounding environment without sticking out like a sore thumb. While taking a stroll along the trails across the site, you will be able to take in the beautiful, rustic scenery of the Baegwol and Yongsong mountains and the rebuilt house of the famed artist.

There are a total of 325 artworks that are housed in this location, and most of the pieces that were collected are his earlier works such as sketches and mokjukhwa (paintings of bamboo shoots and trees). There are also major artworks that provide a glimpse into the representative styles of different time periods. There are nearly 400 articles of the late artist on display. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions and educational programs are in store for visitors.
